Multi-family house in Vienna

About the project

Renovation of a Gründerzeit corner house built in 1914 in Vienna

During the extensive renovation of a Viennese Gründerzeit corner building dating from 1914, a historic building with 18 residential units was successfully transformed into a forward-looking flagship project of the “Raus aus Gas.” Through the use of modern ground-source heat pumps, an on-site photovoltaic system, new windows, and thermal facade retrofitting, the energy supply has been completely decarbonized. A particular highlight in terms of the circular economy is the installation of 18 Joulia-Inline 3P shower drains, which drastically reduce the energy required for hot water production through highly efficient heat recovery. Since the building serves as a blueprint for thousands of comparable older buildings in Vienna, it was inaugurated in June 2026 by Peter Hanke (Federal Minister for Innovation, Mobility, and Infrastructure) and Elke Hanel-Torsch (City Councilor for Housing, Housing Construction, Urban Renewal, and Women).
