This decentralized heat recovery massively reduces the energy consumption per shower, which perfectly complements the efficiency of the central 5000-liter storage tank. Hortus About the project 10P Shower channels combined with instantaneous water heaters The HORTUS project by Herzog & de Meuron sets new standards for the radical implementation of the circular economy by consistently using materials such as clay, wood, and recycled paper to minimize its carbon footprint. HORTUS takes a particularly innovative approach to the energy challenge of hot water preparation. The building completely dispenses with a central hot water system. Instead, HORTUS relies on shower channels from Joulia combined with instantaneous water heaters, reducing the entire building services to a minimum. Joulia Twinline 10P shower channels are used in all seven shower areas. In combination with compact 13 kW electric instantaneous water heaters, energy is recycled directly during showering, minimizing energy losses and guaranteeing the highest hygiene standards.
